Recreation Supervisor – Fitness & Activity Center                                                                                                     
Temporary (5-15 hours per week)

General Statement of Duties:                                                                            
Performs general duties relating to programs and activities at Statesville Fitness & Activity Center.  Position will provide support for full time staff in the execution of activities and facility operations.  

Essential Job Functions:
  • Collect program registrations, fees, answer phone calls and prepare records and actively report in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist in the set-up/breakdown and execution of other recreation programs and special events
  • Promote and sell center memberships
  • Orientate and instruct members on proper use of fitness equipment
  • Prepare activity calendars, bulletin boards, lesson plans and/or help promote recreation activities
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
  • Operate independently without the need of constant supervision
  • Enforce departmental policies governing public safety and quality services
  • Insure proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities and free play
  • Maintain, clean, and care for fitness equipment
  • Exercise professional judgment and good service with patrons, staff & volunteers
  • Supervise facility rentals and special community events
  • Lead groups of children in age appropriate play in childcare facility
  • Lead daily activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, special events and field trips
  • Communicate effectively and enjoy working with all age groups
  • File accident reports and program documentation
  • Assist in facilitating of recreational classes                                                                                                                 
  • Assist in organizing and promoting recreational activities, classes, camps and sports leagues                         
  • Develop participant interest and enthusiasm, maintain positive work relationships                                     
  • Assist in the encouragement of participation and good sportsmanship                                                          
  • Monitor recreation center                                                                                                                           
  • Assist in maintaining facilities, grounds, and equipment                                                                                               
  • Attend all staff meetings and training                                                                                                                           
  • Report to supervisors orally and in writing
  • Perform related work as required
 
Job Related Physical Activity Requirements:
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, both in person or on the telephone, and operate standard office equipment.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs is required.  Sufficient visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze data and figures; use measurement devices and a computer terminal.  An employee in this position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including noise.  An employee in this position could be “reasonably anticipated” as a result of performing their job duties to face contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials.
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
While performing the duties of the class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; observe and interpret situations; read and interpret data, information and documents; interact with City staff and other organizations; and deal with customer relations.
Communicate effectively using written and oral skills; set-up equipment and prepare recreation facility for programs; understand and follow verbal and written directions; knowledge of municipal recreation practices, and basic rules and regulations governing group athletic games and sporting events; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
 
Education and Experience:
Graduation from High School or GED.  Leadership experience in recreation, fitness, and/or child development.  Strong customer service skills.  Experience working with diverse populations.

Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain appropriate class North Carolina driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.  Possession of or ability to obtain certificates in First Aid, CPR, AED use and NC Child Care certification.
