GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Performs intermediate technical work installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and repairing network and PC hardware; does related work as required.
 
Work is performed under regular supervision.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Installs, configures, troubleshoots and repairs network, PC, and printer hardware;
  • Loads, configures and updates software;
  • Administers server;
  • Assists in the support of the phone system;
  • Acts as backup AS/400 administrator;
  • Acts as backup for utility billing operation;
  • Provides technical support to personnel over telephone and on site;
  • Develops and maintains an inventory of technical equipment and supplies;
  • Responds to night and weekend emergency calls;
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:  This position involves light work requiring the exertion of up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, up to ten pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities;  the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Thorough knowledge of PCs, printers, LANs, and PC software; thorough knowledge of network administration practices and techniques; ability to reason and think logically; ability to understand and follow written and oral procedures and instructions; skill in the operation of personal computer equipment; ability to use keyboard, telephone and office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations and associates.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Associate degree in computer science, information systems, or related area; or Microsoft A+, or related certification; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Possession of a N.C. driver’s license.
 
This position is “exempt” and is not eligible for overtime pay.
