Salary Range: $37,654.45 - $62,130.02
Water Resources Department
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs difficult technical and skilled work in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant; does related work as required.
Work is performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a wastewater treatment plant; comprehensive knowledge of hydraulic, chemical and mechanical principles pertinent to wastewater treatment plant operations; thorough knowledge of occupational hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions; ability to detect defects in the operation of mechanical equipment and to determine proper remedial measures; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain records of shift operations; some skill in the use and care of hand tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school and considerable experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment in a wastewater treatment plant; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Certificate; possession of a valid N.C. driver's license; may require possession of an appropriate valid commercial driver's license.
This position is “non-exempt” and is eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- May take on fundamental supervisory responsibilities on an as need basis;
- Makes regular tours of plant and equipment (including buildings) assists in plant operations;
- Monitors gauges, meters, control panels, etc.;
- Records readings from meters and instruments;
- Checks functioning of equipment;
- Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions;
- Performs various tests; collects plant samples for process control;
- Operates dewatering press;
- Skims grease from settling tanks;
- Pumps sludge, drains tanks, cleans clarifiers;
- Cleans and services pumps, motors and other equipment;
- Makes minor or emergency repairs; performs minor preventive maintenance on plant equipment;
- Performs general plant maintenance duties;
- Follows all safety policies and procedures in performing duties;
- Performs related tasks as required or as assigned.
