STAKING TECHNICIAN

Salary Range: $32,526.83 - $53,670.03

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Performs technical work in the design of electrical service and line additions, deletions, relocations and rebuilding; does related work as required.
Work is performed under general supervision

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Locates City electrical utilities; 
  • Uses completed work order to update system maps;
  • Makes copies and blueprints of major jobs;
  • Provides structure drawings, distribution and transmission for all assembly units;
  • Performs related CADD work in the maintenance of maps and drawings;
  • Creates work orders and material lists from construction drawings;
  • Makes preliminary visits to job site and draws up staking sheets for construction or maintenance;
  • Maintains system maps, detail maps, circuit diagrams, blow-ups and territorial maps;
  • Responsible for notifying North Carolina ONE-CALL prior to all digging or excavations;
  • Maintains an ongoing work order system that includes job reference by work order number and location;
  • Meets with all new security light customers and schedules work accordingly;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:  This position involves work requiring the employee to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move objects.  Physical activity related to this position may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.  Sufficient visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze figures, use a computer terminal, assemble parts at distances close to the eyes, and do extensive reading.  An employee in this position will be subjected to inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme cold.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical utility design; thorough knowledge of regulations governing the location and placement of street lights; some knowledge of substation maintenance and operations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, co-workers and superiors; general knowledge of the NESC and PCB handling and disposal regulations; general knowledge of OSHA regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from high school and some experience in electrical engineering drafting work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Possession of a valid N.C. driver’s license.

This position is “non-exempt” and is eligible for overtime pay.
