GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs responsible clerical work coding, reporting, filing and researching police records involving a computerized filing system; does related work as required.

 

Work is performed under regular supervision.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Enters complaints, arrest records and citations into computer system and as required, updates same;
  • Handles parking tickets; keeps track of parking ticket information; receives money, logs pertinent information; types ticket numbers and license and tag numbers; forwards follow-up parking violator information to City Attorney;
  • Makes bank deposit of money received;
  • Responds to questions over the telephone and in person and assists public;
  • Types letters and routine correspondence; performs various filing duties;
  • Validates records entered through NCIC; ensures records are accurate, complete and up to date;
  • Processes accident reports, codes for computer, answers questions and processes requests for information;
  • Updates supplemental investigative reports for investigations division;
  • Distributes incoming package deliveries;
  • Enters bicycle registration into the computer;
  • Handles warning tickets for officers;
  • Handles tow-in reports, mails out letters, and releases vehicles to owners;
  • Mails out motor vehicle request form for officers when requested.

JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: This position involves sedentary work requiring the employee to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Sufficient visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze data and figures; do transcription and extensive reading; and use a computer terminal. An employee in this position will not be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of modern record keeping procedures and practices; general knowledge of police forms, terminology and records; general knowledge of departmental programs, policies and procedures; ability to perform a considerable volume of detailed record work; ability to maintain files; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to operate general office and data entry equipment; ability to follow written and oral directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school supplemented by CRT training and/or experience and some general clerical work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid N.C. driver’s license.

 

This position is “non-exempt” and is eligible for overtime pay.
