CIVIC CENTER EVENT SERVICES TECHNICIAN (Part-Time, without benefits working less than 19 hours per week on average)
(Working Title for Skilled Laborer)

HOURLY RATE: $15.00
CLOSING DATE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Performs difficult semi-skilled and intermediate skilled work in a variety of construction, repair and maintenance assignments involving the use of specialized tools and equipment; does related work as required.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  
  • Performs room set-ups (tables, chairs, stage, etc.);
  • Acts as lead worker on maintenance and repair projects;
  • Performs a variety of skilled tasks in maintaining and repairing facility and grounds;
  • Assists supervisor in planning and organizing daily schedules;
  • Assists with training and supervising event technicians;
  • Assists with event planning for room diagram/layout;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with public;
  • Monitors service and other contracts (linens, dumpsters, mowing);
  • Support operation of heating and cooling system;
  • Participates in tracking all inventory of supplies/equipment;
  • Supports lessee with sound system, computer equipment, irrigation system and resetting fire doors;
  • Does related work as required.
 
JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:  This position involves heavy work requiring the employee to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move objects.  Physical activity related to this position may include climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.  Sufficient visual acuity is required to visually inspect small parts to detect defects; and assemble parts at distances close to the eye.  An employee in this position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold and noise; subject to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, oils and cutting fluids; and subject to job hazards including exposure to moving mechanical parts.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Thorough knowledge of standard building maintenance and repairs; thorough knowledge in the use of common and specialized hand and power tools required in work; ability to manual labor for extended periods; ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction; good physical conditions.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from high school and considerable experience in building maintenance, or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  May require possession of a valid N.C. driver’s license.
 
This position is “non-exempt” and is eligible for overtime pay.
