Recreation & Parks Department - Statesville Fitness & Activity Center
Salary Range: $35,861.70 - $59,172.05

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs difficult professional work in conducting a variety of programs and activities in an activity center or similar facility; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over subordinate temporary and seasonal personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists Facility Manager in scheduling and training of staff including supervision of activities and programs of Fitness and Activity Center;;
- Schedules and supervises use of facility and climbing wall by groups and rentals; enforces rules and regulations and maintains order and discipline;
- Supervises or assists in the maintaining of cleanliness and order of the facilities, equipment and grounds;
- Assists with budget preparation for the Fitness and Activity Center and climbing wall;
- Collects and accounts for fees and completes daily revenue reports;
- Evaluates programs, classes and staff on a regular basis;
- Drives activity van for field trips and recreation programs;
- Assists Program Director and Facility Manager in planning and implementing programs and special events;
- Assists Facility Manager and Program Director in recruiting, hiring and supervising of instructors, climbing wall supervisors and volunteers;
- Plans and supervises classes, special events and overall operation of the climbing wall;
- Attends staff meeting and other training sessions and meetings as requested;
- Assists Fitness Director with classes, operations and care of equipment.
- Assists Program Director and Facility Manager in marketing, membership recruitment and retention.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment requirements of a variety of recreation activities; general knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, psychology and sociology and of personal health and hygiene; general knowledge of first aid practices and techniques; ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by superiors, and to lead and instruct groups in games, sports, and other recreational activities; ability to resolve disputes with firmness and impartiality; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation and parks administration or related field and some experience in organized recreational programs; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license. May require possession of an appropriate valid commercial driver's license.
This position is “non-exempt” and is eligible for overtime pay.
