Salary Range: $41,496.00 - $68,473.60

Working Scheduled: Monday - Friday either 8AM - 5PM or 7AM - 4PM
Summary
Responsible for administering the city’s payroll and maintaining financial records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville. Service to the citizens during a disaster may result in the assignment of other duties, which will take precedence over duties described in this job description. - Reviews and checks payroll records, forms and other documents for accuracy, completeness and conformation to rules and regulations.
- Administers city payroll; verifies all data as correct; and processes payroll.
- Wires a variety of payments to vendors related to payroll and various taxes.
- Reconciles a variety of payroll entries for accuracy including taxes and various withholdings.
- Imports and processes departmental time entries from Tyler Time Management tool into Tyler Payroll Processing module.
- Generates a variety of payroll related reports for state and federal government, prepares W-2’s, 940’s and 941’s.
- Prepares various journal entries, financial reports and assists in year-end closing.
- Enters a variety of data into computer system.
- Processes & maintains fixed asset records.
- Records and posts returned items from the bank and credit card merchant.
- Reconciles cash receipts transactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- One (1) year of payroll experience
Requirements
- Possession of a valid N.C. driver’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of payroll and bookkeeping practices and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and secretarial techniques.
- General knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations and local personnel policies relating to payroll such as FLSA, FMLA and leave policies.
- Ability to understand and apply policies to the maintenance of financial and payroll records/reports.
- Ability to make arithmetic computations accurately and with reasonable speed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, and the general public.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Job Related Physical Activity Requirements
